The department is nationally well known for
it's patient care, clinical investigations and
basic research. The distinguished faculties have
a major commitment to teaching and research in
addition to their clinical activities.
The Department of Internal Medicine 2 was established
in 1949. Until 2001, Prof. Shunichi Wakabayashi,
MD.PhD., Prof. Takeo Yoshida, MD. PhD., and Reiji
Kasukawa, MD., PhD., had directed our department.
Prof. Yukio Sato, MD. PhD, has been directing
our department since January 1st, 2001. Our research
fields are rheumatology, immunology, allergies,
molecular biology, gastroenterology, and hepatology.
About 40 medical staffs that have own specialty
are working at both the clinical and the research
section.
There is a 50-bed inpatient rheumatic disease,
digestive and liver disease, allergic disease,
and general internal disease service at general
hospital attached Fukushima Medical University
that cares for patients with rheumatic disease,
liver diseases, and general internal disease,
gastrointestinal and pancreatic diseases.
Our department have many correlated hospitals
in Fukushima prefecture as following,
1) northern prefecture area: Ohara General hp,
Fukushima Red-Cross hp, Fujita General Public
hp, Saiseikai Fukushima hp, Saiseikai Kawamata
hp, Rehabilitation Iizaka-Onsen hp, Masu Memorial
hp,
2) southern prefecture area: Ohta Memorial hp,
Ohta Nishinouchi hp, Onomachi Public hp, Miharu
Prefectural hp, Motomiya Prefectural hp, Hoshi
hp, Sanatorium Fukushima hp, Hanawa Kousei hp,
Iwase Public hp,
3) sea-side area: Fukushima Rosai hp, Joban Municipal
hp, Soma Public hp,
4) Aizu area: Aizu General Prefectural hp.
Moreover, our department has several related institutions
in abroad. Our staff has been studying in these
institutions; Department of medicine and the Sam
and Rose Stein Institute for Aging at Univ. of
California San Diego, Division of Rheumatology
and Immunology at Medical Univ. of South Carolina,
and Division of Gastroenterology at Univ. of Florida. |
|
Research |
|
The research fields of our department are rheumatology,
immunology, allergy, molecular biology, gastroenterology
and hepatology. We actively attend and present
at many international meeting, ACR, DDW, etc.
Many faculties who have own specialty study every
day. |
|
Education |
|
Faculty members of our department teach rheumatology,
allergy, gastroenterology and hepatology to medical
students in regular class and bedside.
Concerning the Fellowship Training, our department
offers fellowship position each year for highly
qualified physicians dedicated to obtaining the
highest quality training in all aspects of rheumatology,
allergy, gastroenterology, hepatology, and general
internal medicine. The program is distinctive
because of its commitment to providing fellows:
1. The opportunity to learn all diagnostic and
therapeutic procedures to qualified individuals;
2. The ability to obtain additional formal education
as well as exposure to clinical, bench, and transitional
research opportunities.
Divisional education activities include a weekly
research conference, a weekly problems conference
in which the fellows present interesting cases
to be discussed by the faculty, and a biweekly
journal club. In addition, there is a biweekly
lecture series for fellows and medical students
by faculty. This series focuses on major advances
in the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic, digestive,
liver, and allergic diseases, and is provided
by the faculty and fellows. Finally, a rheumatic
disease conference, a digestive disease conference,
and a liver conference are also held each week
to decide on therapeutic policy. |
